Latest Certification Announced at the American Dietetic Association Meeting in Atlanta"
Press Release ATLANTA -- GeniSoy Products Company announced that its entire product line of soy protein bars and powders are now made with non-genetically modified isolated soybean protein. Previously, this was true for most but not all of the products. Consumers can now enjoy the health benefits of the phytonutrients found in GeniSoy productsQlike the isoflavones genistein and daidzeinQwithout concern about the presence of genetically-modified organism (GMO) ingredients. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to make an announcement before the end of October about the role soy protein plays in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. "We label our products with the IPP label to show that the soy protein we select for our products come from certified non-GMO soybeans," said Ed Cabellera, vice president of Marketing at GeniSoy. "IPP stands for Identity Preservation Program and it involves starting out with a soybean that is certified to be non-GMO. Then, in order to safeguard against the accidental addition of GMO to these non-GMO soybeans, the special crop must be controlled at every stageQplanting, harvesting, transportation, storage, processing, and production of soy-based ingredients and the foods that contain them." GeniSoy offers consumers a variety of soy protein products that includes eight flavors of GeniSoy Soy Protein Bars (one being non-fat), GeniSoy Chocolate and Vanilla Shakes, GeniSoy Protein Powder, and four flavors of GeniSoy Soy Nuts, which are toasted without oil and are a crunchy, nut-like snack with 60% less fat than peanuts. GeniSoy uses only water-processed isolated soy protein that retains the naturally occurring levels of isoflavones. Research has demonstrated isoflavones' antioxidant properties and numerous studies have suggested that soy products have the potential to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. The majority of the research studies conducted on the health benefits of soy used the same isolated soy protein found in GeniSoy products.
